Yushu Earthquake Relief is a website that was set up in the immediate wake of the devastating 7.1 earthquake that struck Jiegu town (Yushu) in the early hours of 14 April 2010. It now serves as a (partial) record of that terrible event, and of the outstanding response of so many people from around the world. It does not do full justice to the immediate or longer-lasting impacts of the earthquake on the local people and community, or to the devotion of the volunteers from Yushu and elsewhere in the province, from around the country, and internationally; yet it still may provide a glimpse into the events of 2010.
Please click here to enter the site. A summary of events in 2010, in the form of Plateau Perspectives’ 2010 Annual Report, can be downloaded here.
Additional project work continues, as a longer-term response to the earthquake situation — please see Plateau Perspectives‘ website in this regard, in particular its Rehabilitation Programme, and its community Income Generation work through the development of Community Ecotourism in the Sanjiangyuan Region of Qinghai Province.
